The 'flower' of college life, the festival culture, is changing. The disorderly rush to celebrity performances, pubs rampant with alcohol and high-pitched songs, and entertainment-centered experience booths have disappeared into a scene of memory. Hannam University is showing the changed college festival culture by hosting the Cheonglim Festival from the 24th to the 26th.
A special space has been set up on the temporary stage in Hannam University's sports field. This is the 'Barrier-Free Zone', set up so that students with disabilities can safely watch performances and festival events. Some universities in the metropolitan area operate barrier-free zones, but Hannam University is pioneering the operation of barrier-free zones among universities in the Chungcheong region. They ensured sufficient space for wheelchairs to enter and set up a barrier-free zone close to the stage for visually impaired students.
Through the Disability Student Support Center, they accepted advance reservation applications so that students with disabilities could conveniently watch performances and provided support services.
Mr. Kim, a current student at Hannam University who watched a celebrity performance event, said, "I never dreamed of watching a festival performance because of the risk of getting hurt due to a disability, but I was able to enjoy the performance so much in this great barrier-free zone." He also thanked his fellow students and the student council for their consideration.
A 'Virtual Reality (VR) Mock Interview' experience hall appeared at the event booth. When students put on goggles, an interviewer appears in virtual reality. Students can receive feedback if they respond with the same attitude and answer as actual job interviewees. The VR experience booth attracted high popularity among job-seeking students.
With the sale of alcohol banned on campus, a lineup of fun-to-choose food trucks has replaced pubs. From the symbolic tower to the road to the central library, Hannam University operates 20 unique food truck zones from 10 am to 11 pm during the festival.
An official from the Hannam University Student Welfare Office said, "It seems that the atmosphere of the festival and the cultural preferences of students have changed a lot after COVID-19." He also mentioned that "The culture of considering people with disabilities and information experience booths are popular, reflecting the changed festival culture."
