"Over 40 Students and Staff from 5 U.S. Universities Participate, Feeling the Popularity of K-Culture"
Hannam University's Korean Studies Summer Program (KSSP), started in 2006 to globalize the globally recognized K-Culture, held its completion ceremony on the 12th. The students from the U.S. who participated in the ceremony shared their joy and sorrow while reviewing videos of diverse Korean cultural experiences with their paired Hannam University students over the past three weeks.
This year's KSSP was conducted for three weeks starting from the 24th of last month. Forty students and staff from five universities in the United States, including Baylor University, Dort University, Presbyterian College, Schreiner University, and the University of North Carolina Asheville, experienced various aspects of Korean culture.
Participants immersed themselves in the charm of Korea through a wide range of experiences, including lectures on Korean society, history, culture, and technology; Korean language education; visits to famous historical and cultural sites in Jeonju, Buyeo, Tongyeong, Geoje, and the DMZ; baseball games; movie screenings; tours of the Kia Motors Hwaseong Plant; and visits to the Rare Isotope Science Project at the Institute for Basic Science.
At the completion ceremony, Kim In-seop, Vice President for Industry-Academic Research, welcomed the participants, saying, “Under the catchphrase 'United Locally, Expanded Globally', Hannam University aims for glocalization and strives to expand exchanges with overseas partner universities. We will continue to ensure that this program plays a central role in helping participating students properly learn about Korean culture.”
