Hannam University (President Kwang-Sup Lee) announced the inauguration of "Campus Polis" for the 2023 academic year to prevent crime on campus and promote a clean campus culture.
On the afternoon of the 8th, the inauguration ceremony was held in the conference room on the first floor of the main building, with 25 students (20 from the Department of Police Science and 5 foreign students), along with police officials including Sang-Won Ham, Director of the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency, and Seok-Woo Kang, Chief of the Jung-ri Police Station, attending to celebrate the Campus Polis inauguration.
Campus Polis at Hanyang University has been operating for eight years since its establishment in 2016. To prevent crime on campus and promote a healthy campus culture, Campus Polis members, consisting of students, will conduct joint patrols with police officers from the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency and Jung-ri Police Station.
Students will be divided into five teams of five members each and patrol vulnerable areas on campus, such as the campus sports field, parking lot, dormitory vicinity, and campus innovation park construction site, on a rotating schedule every week from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. This will establish a campus crime prevention system and ensure safety.
With the number of foreign students at Hannam University reaching nearly 1,200, the activities of foreign student polis are also expected.
President Lee said at the inauguration ceremony, "Campus Polis is a very important autonomous activity that recognizes the safety and security of everyone as a collective effort and does not overlook small problems." He also said, "I hope that Campus Polis members who participate in such meaningful activities will have boundless pride and work hard to maintain a safe environment."
