Hannam University (President Kwang-Sup Lee) successfully held the '2023 Entrepreneurship-Oriented University Declaration Ceremony' and announced its position as a hub for regional entrepreneurship both domestically and internationally.
On the 25th, at 2:30 PM, the declaration ceremony took place at Hannam University Makerspace. The event was organized by the Hannam University Entrepreneurship Support Team and sponsored by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Daejeon Metropolitan City, and the Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development. Various institutions related to entrepreneurship, including industries, academia, research institutions, and local governments, gathered to show their support and dedication to the success of entrepreneurial ventures.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Mayor Jae-Woo Lee of Daejeon City, Deputy Mayor Jun-Bae Lee of Sejong City's Economic Affairs, Mayor Chung-Gyu Choi of Daejeon's Daejeon-gu district, Superintendent Dong-Ho Seol of Daejeon City Education Office, President Duck-Sung Oh of Woosong University, President Hee-Hak Lee of Mokwon University, President Sang-Ho Nam of Daejeon University, President Young-Don Yoo of Joongdo Ilbo, and others from the education and media sectors. Additionally, prominent figures such as Sung-Nok-Young, the Director of Daejeon and Sejong Regional Small and Medium Business Administration, Woo-Yeon Kim, the Director of Daejeon Techno Park, and Dae-Hee Park, the Director of Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center, attended the ceremony and delivered congratulatory messages.
Representatives from the university, including Director Jeong-Ho Shin and President Kwang-Seop Lee, as well as members of the education committee, attended the event. Numerous representatives from venture companies, venture associations, accelerator associations, and other related business stakeholders also attended, expressing their hopes for the success of the Entrepreneurship-Oriented University project.
During the ceremony, President Kwang-Seop Lee and Director Jeong-Ho Shin presented a letter of appreciation to Mayor Jae-Woo Lee of Daejeon City, who contributed to the selection of the university as an Entrepreneurship-Oriented University, on behalf of the university community. The Hannam University Entrepreneurship Support Team also received commendation for its excellent performance in the field of entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, Professor In-Seop Kim from the Department of Life Systems Science, who is an entrepreneur, donated a portion of the profits from BioPS and QSBioTech, totaling 82.4 million KRW, to the university as the "Hannam Entrepreneurship Fund." Professor Kim has consistently donated a portion of his profits since starting his own business, totaling an impressive 248.27 million KRW to date.
Following the ceremony, a networking event took place at Moore Art Hall, where participants had the opportunity to share information and engage in networking activities between organizations and institutions.
The "2023 Entrepreneurship-Oriented University" is a project led by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, aiming to support the activation of the local entrepreneurship ecosystem and the commercialization of startup businesses through universities equipped with excellent entrepreneurship infrastructure and collaborative networks within their regions. Over the course of five years, a total of 41 billion KRW in government support and 1.25 billion KRW in funds from Daejeon City will be invested, with the goal of discovering and supporting more than 425 prospective, early-stage, growth, and experimental startup entrepreneurs, achieving sales of 240 billion KRW, employing 2,300 individuals, attracting 47 billion KRW in investments, and producing 15 listed companies.
