Hannam University's Design Factory, recognized as an innovative educational platform for nurturing creative talents in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, showcased its achievements for the first half of 2023.
The Hannam Design Factory held the '2023 CPD (Creative Product Design) GALA' event at 2 pm on the 23rd in the university's makerspace. The Design Factory is a project-based class that breaks down the boundaries between departments, with students from different majors coming together to share ideas and develop creative prototypes. Since its establishment in 2019, the Hannam Design Factory, now in its fifth year, had 66 students from 8 departments, including Computer Engineering, Global Business, Business Administration, Media and Film, Mechanical Engineering, Multimedia Engineering, Convergent Design, and Korean Creative Writing, participating in the first semester of 2023.
This semester, they collaborated with 'Samjin Precision', a company affiliated with the Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam Economic Associations (Chairman Jung Tae-hee), and TMS, an overseas McDonald's marketing company.
The 'Beep Beep' team presented a service information board to aid visually impaired individuals with low vision in public transportation. The 'DOROTHY' team created an advanced sensor machine that alerts visually impaired and elderly people to take their medication regularly.
Notable are the works of the 'Luxury' team, which developed a ventilation system using eco-friendly wood that does not contain chemical substances to not hinder students' growth, and the 'ZERO100' team, which developed a dehumidifying robot cleaner that removes mold in bathrooms.
They also collaborated with McDonald's to introduce a Happy Meal set with traditional toys from different countries and a Happy Meal set with a story of helping lost animals find their way home made from paper. They presented a variety of products filled with ideas such as a multi-purpose crime prevention security light, sharebox, direction sign for evacuation in case of fire, and control system.
The Hannam Design Factory is the second in Korea to join the 'Design Factory Global Network' (DFGN), which includes top universities and global companies centered around Aalto University in Finland. It has achieved significant results, including 53 patent applications, numerous wins in various competitions, and selection as an exemplary case of educational innovation in national projects.
President Lee Kwang-Sup said, "The Design Factory is increasingly producing high-quality creative convergence results from students," and added, "Through such innovative education, students will emerge as global leaders leading the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
