President Lee Kwang-Sup of Hannam University, which is the presiding university of the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA, consisting of 69 universities from 9 countries), has participated in the second executive meeting of ACUCA at Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan from the 5th for a 3 nights 4 days schedule.
This meeting, which was held face-to-face for the first time in 5 years due to the effects of COVID-19, gathered the executives of ACUCA to discuss the details of the ACUCA General Assembly event to be held at Hannam University in October, expand financial support according to the progress of the event, share ACUCA's first half achievements, and conduct revenue and expenditure. In addition, they also appointed the president of Chung Yuan Christian University as the next vice-president university and had a mutual interview.
In particular, at this meeting, they held a sharing session to verify the results of expanding the Micro-Degree program, which Hannam University first introduced and operates, to ACUCA member universities. The Microdegree program, a practical education program that grants mini-degrees upon completion of a minimum number of credits specified for each field, has seen a steady increase in the number of students completing it, with 195 students from 5 countries and 7 universities last summer vacation, 256 students from 5 countries and 11 universities in the winter vacation, and 307 students (recruitment in progress) this summer vacation.
President Lee of Hannam University, who serves as the chairman of ACUCA, said in his keynote speech, "After the start of the pandemic, member universities had a difficult time, but they found a new way to communicate with students with a strong will to teach. ACUCA will lead the change in higher education and seek new ways that are beneficial to universities and students."
Established in 1976, ACUCA includes 69 universities from Korea, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan, and has been actively promoting joint academic activities, hosting conferences, and exchanges of universities and students. In Korea, six universities including Hannam University, Keimyung University, Ewha Womans University, Yonsei University, Sogang University, and Handong Global University are participating."
