Hannam University was selected as one of the preliminary designated universities for the 'Glocal University 2024' announced by the Ministry of Education on the 16th. Hannam University submitted a 'K-Startup Valley' university model linked to a regional development strategy (creating a startup town) based on excellent startup infrastructure and specialized entrepreneurship education capabilities. This plan, which aligns with the fundamental meaning of the Glocal University 30 project, led Hannam University to be the only private university in the Daejeon area to achieve this preliminary designation.
Hannam University announced its plan to establish and operate an investment joint corporation (Hannam Holdings) with joint investment from the university, central government, local governments, and public enterprises. The investment profits will be fully reinvested for sustainable innovation.
In 2023, Hannam University was selected as the host institution for the Startup-Centered University. By December 2024, the Campus Innovation Park, an advanced national industrial complex, will be completed on the university campus. Additionally, Hannam University plans to create a startup hub by constructing youth startup residential complexes with Daejeon Urban Corporation and a water industry academia-industry cooperation startup center with the Korea Water Resources Corporation.
Additionally, Hannam University's Daedeok Valley Campus, located within the Daedeok Research Complex, facilitates active research exchanges with the complex. It also operates the largest startup incubation center in the country and has established the nation's first multinational corporate bio-education center, providing a foundation for nurturing startup talent. Hannam University intends to transform the Daedeok Valley Campus into a Biomedical-focused campus, a strategic industry of Daejeon City, and build an international startup belt, including a bio-entrepreneurship center and a bio-medical university.
President Seung-cheol Yi of Hannam University said, "I am grateful to the university members and the local community for their support, which enabled us to be the only private university in Daejeon to be preliminarily designated for the Glocal University 30 project. Just as a single tree does not make a forest, we aim to establish a collaborative governance of industry, academia, and research with Daejeon City as our hub, and build a startup valley based on Hannam University's strengths in entrepreneurship. Additionally, we plan to reform our curriculum into modular programs linked to regional specialized industries, establishing a 'glocal multidisciplinary convergence entrepreneurship education' and support system."
